The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is the middle class's first line of defense against the big banks and unfair financial practices. But Wall Street lobbyists and their Republican allies in Congress have made clear from the start that they want to gut the CFPB. We're calling on Congress to protect the CFPB and redouble efforts to ensure middle class families are getting a fair deal on mortgages, student loans, credit cards and other critical financial instruments.
Why is this important?
To protect American families from the predatory and unfair lending practices that contributed to the financial crisis. From the very beginning, though, Wall Street made clear they didn't want anybody holding them accountable or stopping their ability to exploit their customers. We must continue to protect our self and our families.
