Climate change is making disasters more forceful. Like Hurricane Katrina. Sandy. Harvey. Maria. Florence. The Midwest floods. The California fires. Forced to leave their homes, millions of people return to devastation.
That’s why we need a president who will protect our resilience workforce: the people who make our recovery from these disasters possible.
Why is this important?
My name is Saket Soni. I’m an organizer on the frontlines of recovery from climate disaster and work with a group called Resilience Force. We fight to protect the workers who rebuild our homes and communities. Hundreds of thousands of these workers are immigrants.
As publications like the New York Times and Gizmodo have reported, these immigrant resilience workers face dangerous working conditions, homelessness, abuse, and attacks by immigration enforcers with no oversight—even as they work to help us all come home.
In 2020, we need a president who will protect our resilience workforce: the people who make our recovery possible. TELL THESE CANDIDATES to pledge to give America’s resilience workers:
• Dignity at work including safe working conditions and a living wage
• Freedom from fear of deportation as they work to help local residents come home, and
• Full citizenship in the America they’re rebuilding after climate disasters
