To: My state's superdelegates
Protecting the Democratic Process
Let the voters decide. Pledge to support the candidate who gets the most pledged delegate votes at the Democratic National Convention.
Why is this important?
This is the first time in my life that I've been genuinely interested in politics and the democratic process of our country, enough to actually consider myself to be an informed voter. Super delegates directly impede democracy and the will of the people. For example, in the New Hampshire Primary Bernie Sanders defeated Hilary Clinton by a huge margin of over 20%. Sanders won 15 delegates to Clintons 9 however, because of the super delegates who have pledged their support for Hilary Clinton in direct conflict with the will of the people of New Hampshire, they ended up tied. Theses super delegates are elected officials and party insiders. Please tell these people that we will not tolerate them standing in the way of democracy by signing this petition. This issue goes far beyond one election and two candidates, this is about the democratic process that many of my peers are becoming a part of for the first time. This is about the right of the people to decide for themselves who they want to nominate for the presidency. This is about the country that we will leave our children and about the freedoms that countless men and women have given their lives to protect. Please consider adding your name to the petition.
