Instead of leasing public lands to the oil and gas companies have them work for the United State by giving them a reasonable percent of the profits after they bring in the oil and gas. Allow the profits made by the people of America to go directly into paying down the debt..
Why is this important?
Public land belongs to the citizens of the United States. Why should they not profit from the oil and gas found there? Also pass a law that lateral drilling from off public land to under public land is prohibited.
