Puerto Rico Statehood
The unincorporated Territory of Puerto Rico is a beautiful semi-tropical Caribbean island which has a population higher than 40% of our states, yet it has no voting representation in our government. In 2017 Puerto Rico was devastated by two category 5 hurricanes killing more U.S. Citizens than the 9/11 attack and leaving the island so devastated it took ten months to get electricity back to everyone. Although the President claimed the Federal response to this disaster was an A+, it was an utter failure and by any standard an F-. That is why Puerto Rico needs and should receive statehood, if for no other reason than to have a say in how they are treated. The time has come to authorize statehood for Puerto Rico and while we're at we should look at the District of Columbia too.
Why is this important?
The Federal response to the devastation caused by hurricanes Florence and Maria was a travesty, easily as poor as Hurricane Katrina. With representation, they would at least have a few votes in how they are treated and as a state, Puerto Rico could blossom.
Side-note: Puerto Rico has voted twice to become a state. These are U.S citizens so let's give them what they want.
