Push the NJ state legislature to pass the New Jersey Fair Debt Collection Practices Act

Push the NJ state legislature to stop languishing on the Consumer Credit Fairness Act, Bill 2818 which has been sitting in committee since the spring of 2011. It was initially introduced to the legislature in 2008. This act is intended to protect NJ consumers from the unscrupulous debt collectors and debt collection law firms. It will prevent consumers from being wrongfully sued and their bank accounts seized without thorough verification that the entity suing is the true legal owner of the debt. It will stop collectors from filing thousands of lawsuits each year and collecting on default judgments, because the consumer was not properly served or afraid to challenge them in court.

Why is this important?

Been wrongfully sued by people you don't owe? Had your bank account seized without notice because you may or may not owe a debt? Had judgment entered against you without your knowledge? Yes? Sign this petition.
