To: President Donald Trump, The United States House of Representatives, and The United States Senate
qualified candidates
If a person wants to be considered for a retail job with a large U.S. corporation making minimum wage, he/she usually has to take several exams to prove his/her qualifications and to reveal whether or not the applicant is honest and trustworthy.
It's painfully obvious that our political leaders in congress are NOT qualified to serve us; they have used their lack of knowledge/understanding of the U. S. Constitution to distort and confuse the public and to draw attention away from the fact that many of their individual and collective actions are and have been in violation of the constitution.
If every member of congress, the president and V. P., candidate for congress, candidate for president and V. P. had to have a firm grasp of the constitution (and had to be tested to prove this proficiency) we would have qualified officials, an improved government and a better informed public.
Why should a person be able to run for top political office (or any political office, for that matter) without having to prove her/his qualifications? Shouldn't the requirements to be an elected official charged with steering our country be at least as demanding as getting a job with retail chain store to sell a laptop computer? Why isn't there a panel of constitutional scholars to oversee the process of the applicants who wish to become president, V. P. or a member of congress like there is when graduate students have to defend their dissertations?
Sign this petition if you feel candidates for elected office should have to prove they are qualified via passing examinations before they are allowed to run and that those currently in office satisfy the same requirements; those who are found to be unqualified will be relieved of their duties/salaries/benefits etc... posthaste.

Why is this important?
During the Clinton impeachment hearings, Robert Byrd referenced the constitution many times; one of Byrd's democratic colleagues spoke next and began his speech by stating (I'm paraphrasing) -- I'm not as well versed as my (esteemed?) colleague when it comes to the United States Constitution...
I passed out from the impact of this massive dose of stupidity; when I was able to think again, I thought, why the __ aren't you as well versed as Robert Byrd when it comes to the constitution? How can you be a member of congress and not have a firm grasp on the fundamentals that are in place to guide lawmakers?
