Immediately raise the California minimum wage to $10.00/hour. Attach the minimum wage to inflation, to be adjusted at the beginning of every fiscal year.
Why is this important?
The California minimum wage has not been raised for five years and currently stands at $8.00/hour. We have the lowest minimum wage among the west coast states, with Washington at $9.11/hour and Oregon at $8.95/hour. The cost-of-living in California's biggest cities is unsustainable on an $8.00/hour full time work load. It is time that we joined Oregon and Washington by attaching our minimum wage to inflation, adjusted at the beginning of every fiscal year, and set at $10.00/hour beginning this upcoming fiscal year.
