Raise the Roof, Not the Rent

Come together so that we are not torn apart. Rebuild community by allowing people the opportunity to afford their roofs be kept over their heads. Set down roots and fight back against the abuse of power that landlords continue to believe is their right to exercise by raising their rents by inordinate amounts.

Why is this important?

I am starting this petition because, contrary to popular belief, Boston is not comprised solely of a student population. There are families, friends, neighbors, and countless other individual roles that account for the building of a community to be on solid ground. In addition, while over the years we have seen an increase in students that have chosen to stay. Those students shackled to the chains of student loan debt have found it increasingly difficult to remain in one place for one reason; the rent continues to rise and our pay does not. We love the city of Boston, and now we ask that the city love us back and pass legislation that places a cap on the percentage that a landlord can legally raise their rent.
