Raise Up New York | Local Power to Raise the Wage

There’s growing national momentum and broad support for raising wages and lifting workers out of poverty to help boost the economy—and we’re committed to making that happen in New York. Support Local Wage Authority.

Why is this important?

New York has the worst income inequality in the nation--- that’s more than 3 million men and women who are working hard, playing by the rules, and still living in poverty.

Part of the problem is the state’s woefully inadequate minimum wage. Especially in high cost areas like New York City, $8 / hour just isn’t enough to pay the bills, much less save for a brighter future.

That’s why Albany should allow cities and counties to supplement the state minimum wage, so it more realistically reflects each area’s cost of living.
