Reasonable Parking Restictions on City Streets.

Currently, Parking regulations in the City of Las Vegas prohibit parking vehicles over 8000 pounds gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) or over 24 feet in overall length on a city owned street designated as "Residential" ( LVMC 11.48.090). These restrictions make the parking of many common SUV's and pick up trucks unlawful within the city. Actually, LVMC 11.48.** makes even driving your SUV or pick up home unlawful. Additionally, trailers hooked to a vehicle are counted in the overall length, meaning two legal vehicles connected for towing are unlawful and subject to citation.

Our proposal is simple.
1) Raise the weight limit for parking / operation on a residential street to 13,000 pounds. This will include all common pick ups and SUV's while still restricting most commercial Medium and Heavy duty vehicles from neighborhoods.
2) Length of a vehicle should be defined as each individual vehicle as a stand alone. Trailers should be considered on their individual size and not that of the combination of vehicles.

Why is this important?

This petition is to adjust the antiquated parking ordinances of the City of Las Vegas, Nevada to reflect today's common privately owned vehicles.
