Recognizing the Earth as a Shared Commons
RESOLVED:
That the undersigned embrace the principle that the earth is the birthright of all persons equally;
That the claims by groups to exclusive, sovereign control over any portion of the earth is in violation of the most basic human right to the equal opportunity for a decent, human existence;
That, just governance of the planet must recognize the earth and its storehouse of natural resources as a commons; and
That a method of equitable distribution of the wealth provided by nature must be implemented to solve the problem of global poverty.

Why is this important?
Human activity and migration has created a planet divided into nation-states, each declaring sovereign control over some portion of the earth. Those of us who see the earth as a commons to be accessed and shared equally by all persons are urged to signed this petition to give voice to the moral principle ignored and abandoned for far too long.
