Reform of the Student Loans process

Student loans have been granted in the past for
education programs/degrees that do not provide
sufficient tools such that a student can realistically
expect to be able to become employed using
those skills to pay off the debt in a timely manner.

We need to have schools provide a realistic
assessment of the value of their programs before
any loans be granted. No loans should be granted
for programs that will not allow the student to
realistically pay off their debt in a timely fashion
using a reasonable portion of their income.

Schools that can be shown to have provided a
worthless education shall have to refund all
payments and assume responsibility for the loans.

No loans will be granted to students to attend a
school where more than 50% of a student body
is attending that school based on loans, regardless
of the source of those loans.

Interest rates on non-dischargeable loans are to
be capped at the prime rate charged by banks.
No additional fees may be bundled into the debt.

Why is this important?

Petition is to change the way student loans are granted to
prevent the accumulation of debt by people for an effectively worthless education.
