Reform Prop. 13/Educate Our State
Reform Prop. 13 to its original purpose of providing property tax stability for primary residences. Prop 13 was not intended to provide subsidized tax rates to corporate land holders and big businesses. We can fund California's entire public education system from pre-K to K-12 to community college to state colleges to the University of California if we let corporate land lords pay market rate taxes. Reform Prop 13 . Protect primary residences. Fund our public schools.
Why is this important?
California is one of the largest economies in the world, yet our public education system had been radically defunded over the last two decades. We are at the point where the UC system, once the jewel of California's public education system, is reliant on out-of-state tuition. California ranks 47th out of 50 in national per pupil funding of K-12 students. Prop. 13 has severely decreased funding for public education. Corporate entities use artificially low tax rates to increase their profits. That was not the intention of Prop. 13. The costs of goods and services rise over time. Corporate landlords should pay market rate property taxes so they can contribute their fair share to public education. We all rely on public education to produce the next generation of entrepreneurs, doctors, nurses and engineers. Let's educate the next generation. Reform Prop. 13.
