Reforming Our Poorest-Performing Schools to Become a Great State

Stop cutting from education to fix the budget and start allocating more funds to extending the hours of learning with after-school education for our lowest-performing schools.

Why is this important?

I am trying to reform an after-school program in two Charleston inner-city schools, and I'm disgusted about the lack of allocated funds to after-school programs and continuing education. Many students that I have come to care about cannot afford the program and do not relearn what they learn during school hours. If we're going to make a better education system, we'll need South Carolina government to get behind the initiative to cause real change in Charleston County Schools and the Corridor of Shame. Instead of handing out tax exemptions, perhaps we should focus on educational innovation!
