Regulate sportsbetting and gambling NOW

Lawmakers must step in to put people before profits and regulate predatory sports betting apps.

We’re calling on elected officials to protect Americans by:
  • Limiting aggressive marketing and promotions that target young people and low-income communities
  • Requiring strong safeguards in the apps themselves, including deposit and loss limits, cooling-off periods, clear, frequent warnings and labels, and easy, one-click self-exclusion options
  • Strengthening oversight and transparency, forcing companies like DraftKings and other online sportsbooks to report out data on problem gambling

Why is this important?

Online sports betting apps like DraftKings put a casino in every person’s pocket, turning everyday sports fans into 24/7 targets for addictive gambling with very little oversight or regulation. With just a few taps, people can lose thousands of dollars before they even realize how much money they owe.

Apps like DraftKings are designed to keep people hooked—using constant notifications, “trending bets,” and flashy promotions to fuel fear of missing out and push bigger, riskier bets.
As losses pile up, families are the ones who pay the price, facing drained savings, unpaid bills, and mounting debt.

None of this is an accident. These platforms profit from the very people who are losing control, making it as easy as possible to deposit money and as hard as possible to walk away. When addiction is built into the business model, it’s not “just a game” anymore—it’s a public health crisis.

We have to regulate apps like DraftKings and the sports betting business to protect families and prevent greedy corporations from siphoning money from working people.
