Reinstate UVA President Sullivan and restructure the Board of Visitors to include representatives elected by the alumni and by the faculty.
Why is this important?
UVa President Teresa A. Sullivan is a well-respected educational leader who has fought for incremental, consensus-based change. This was not acceptable to Helen Dragas Chair of UVa' Board of Visitors who expects a deep cutting of liberal arts departments and worked for months to engineer Sullivan's dismissal. The episode points out serious defects in UVa's governing structure. We can make this right by rehiring President Sullivan and by adding alumni and faculty-elected trustees to the Board of Visitors.
