Reject the Oneonta Railyards GEIS as written
The Oneonta Railyards GEIS is fundamentally flawed. As currently written, the health, safety, and protection of our neighborhoods or our environment is at risk
Why is this important?
I am starting this petition because as a city resident, I do not want the City of Oneonta to bring more fracked gas and “bomb trucks” through the city where I live.
As written, the GEIS document will allow:
* Development on a brownfield (contaminated soil) which could be a danger to surrounding neighborhoods.
* Paving over wetlands which could cause toxic stormwater and flooding in the 6th Ward.
* Massive energy requirements needing a decompressor to fuel the Railyards with Compressed Natural Gas transported in “bomb trucks” on local roads and through dangerous intersections.
* Pollution from Heavy Industry including a garbage-burning or “fracked” gas power plant.
* Constant truck traffic, noise, lights, odors, and toxic emissions.
Instead, the GEIS should: Protect our property values and quality of life, protect our air quality and health, prevent flooding and protect wetlands, and focus on clean and renewable energy.
*** City of Oneonta residents- if you feel comfortable, please mention your Ward in the comments area when you sign***
