Return the Federal pretax benefits for public transit commuters to at least an equal if not higher level than that for automobile commuters.
Unless Congress acts to reinstate the pretax benefits, there will be a bias in favor of automobile commuting, with public transit commuters only able to set aside $125 a month, and auto commuters allowed up to $240 a month. This subsidizes the more polluting automobile over the cleaner and more energy efficient use of buses, trains and automobiles.
