Remove work comp insurance burden for small construction firms
This petition is an effort to remove the burden of providing work comp insurance coverage by EVERY construction-related business. If you’re in “construction”, you can’t hire even one person without providing work comp before-hand. All other types of employers are allowed to hire up to 3 people without having to buy this exorbitant coverage.
A small construction firm is severely limited in hiring temporary, part-time, or even full-time help - in that work comp demands a huge chunk of funds these firms likely don't have yet in order to attempt to go about their jobs.
There's no pay-as-you-go scenarios available because the "insurer" demands a large initial premium upfront before you can hire someone and then wait to receive payment for the work you eventually accomplish with their help. This impossible requirement makes it impractical for small construction businesses to attempt to compete, much less be LEGAL!
My firm could definitely put additional workers in jobs, however, our hands are tied due to this draconian requirement which only applies to construction.
It’s been said that construction is the “backbone” of this Country, however, financially-impossible work comp requirements force us to work from a disadvantaged position. Good workers are being denied jobs they could otherwise be extended. The small employer who could put them to work cannot meet the insurance demands.

Why is this important?
If you'd like to work for a small construction firm, but the firm finds it impossible to provide you with workers' compensation insurance, should you not work at all, instead?
