Rep. Brown: Do Not Punish Rape Victims

Please write to Rep. Brown to explain that this will actually be punishing the victim and not punishing the person who commits incest or rape and then procures or facilitates an abortion to destroy the evidence of the crime.

“New Mexico needs to strengthen its laws to deter sex offenders,” said Brown. “By adding this law in New Mexico, we can help to protect women across our state.”

Why is this important?

New Mexico House Bill 206 would penalize victims of rape who choose to abort by charging them with a third-degree felony for "tampering with evidence". Third-degree felonies carry a term of up to three years in jail.
