Rep. John Mahoney support the Updated Bottle Bill

The Bottle Bill is the state's most successful recycling and litter prevention program. Since the Bottle Bills's inception in 1982, over 35 billion containers have been redeemed, contributing to a healthier environment, cleaner and safer communities, and a stronger economy. But to keep up the times and consumer's tastes, the bottle bill must be updated.

This bill would:

Increase Recycling: Over 1 billion additional containers will be recycled every year. These containers, mostly PET plastic, are badly needed for textile production. PET is made of 99% petroleum.

Decrease Litter: litter is an eyesore and can also be a health concern. The DEP estimates that there will be an annual savings of up to $7 million in collection and disposal of littered and unredeemed containers.
