To: Rep. Robert Pittenger, Congressman (Dist 9)

Rep. Pittenger Support H.R. 15

Now is the time to pass just and compassionate immigration reform. I ask that in the 113th Congress you co-sponsor H.R. 15 and support a comprehensive immigration reform that:

• Provides a path to citizenship for undocumented persons in this country
• Makes preserving family unity the cornerstone of our national immigration system
• Provides legal paths for low-skilled immigrant workers to come and work in the United States
• Protects from retaliation undocumented workers and family members who are defending civil, labor, and human rights

A recent Harper Polling report states that 69% of North Carolinians support immigration reform. According to a study published last month by the political research group Latino Decisions, because of changing demographics, you are in danger of losing your congressional seat in 2014 if you do not support comprehensive immigration reform. Additionally the Harper poll indicated that 48% of respondents said they were less likely to support an elected official who opposed reform, compared with just 20% who were more likely to support a reform opponent.

I look forward to monitoring your public position on this vital issue. Our nation cannot wait any longer. Support H.R. 15, Congressman Pittenger.

Please also encourage House Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor to lead their party and bring H.R. 15 up for a vote.

I vote YES for immigration reform. I expect you to do the same.

Why is this important?

Now is the time for our members of congress to stop dragging their feet and support a comprehensive immigration reform that will help millions of families to come out of the shadows and fully participate in our communities.

On October 27, California Congressman Jeff Denham did what many thought impossible. As a Republican, he decided to put families over politics and signed on to the comprehensive immigration reform bill H.R. 15. This is an opportunity for Representative Pittenger to do the same. We need Rep. Pittenger to also be a leader and put families over politics.

A recent Harper Polling report states that 69% of North Carolinians support immigration reform in principal. The same report says that 74% of North Carolinians believe that Congress should enact immigration reform this year. Also, 48% of respondents said they were less likely to support an elected official who opposed reform, compared with just 20% who were more likely to support a reform opponent.

According to a study published last month by the political research group Latino Decisions, because of changing demographics, Rep. Pittenger is in danger of losing his congressional seat in 2014, if he does not support comprehensive immigration reform.
