Rep. Pitts: Support Voting Rights
Last year's Supreme Court decision weakened critical provisions of the Voting Rights Act (VRA), eliminating important protections for voters across the country. But a new bill in Congress can fix the VRA and restore these protections. Please give your support to the Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2014 sponsored by Representatives Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and John Conyers (D-MI) and Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT.
Why is this important?
It is ethically and morally wrong for a democracy to impede the rights of citizens to vote. The Voting Rights Act was a landmark piece of legislation for ensuring the civil rights of all Americans. Congress has an obligation to restore the rights that have now been violated by the Supreme Court's decision. Rep. Pitts should demonstrate the leadership expected of a seasoned member of Congress by cosponsoring this important bill.
