Repeal Laws That Hurt Ex-Felons

Tell Texas legislators to repeal laws and policies that prevent ex-felons from holding public offices and voting, which diminishes our eligibility to earn a decent living and to practice professions that we are otherwise duly qualified to practice.

Why is this important?

I am an ex-felon who has been off of parole for 15 years. Yet, I still have to report that I have been convicted of a felony each time I fill out an application for employment. Having to list my prior criminal record (writing bad checks) causes employers to focus on my past conviction instead of my ability to do the job. Our tax dollars should not be used to fund agencies that keep hardworking citizens who have paid their debt to society out of the workforce. Helping ex-felons succeed and re-enter society without the plethora of civil disabilities should be the aim of these taxpayer funded agencies.
