Repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and support the Respect for Marriage. Marriage is an act of love and commitment not defined by race, gender, religion or sexual orientation.
Why is this important?
DOMA was put into place by Congress in 1996. The laws that are enforced by DOMA do not allow same sex couples to be legally married outside the seven states that support same sex marriage. It also doesnt allow their marriage to be recognized in other states. It also doesnt let joint taxes be filed and many other rights married couples have. By supporting the Respect for Marriage Act it will allow all marriages to be equal. All Americans deserve equality and supporting same sex marriage does not deminish anyone`s rights.
