Remove the term marriage from all civil unions to allow all people access to the societal benefits that come with joining together in the eyes of the state.
Why is this important?
Often times, opponents of gay marriage say that "marriage" carries a certain religious sanctity. If ALL unions between two people are recognized ONLY as civil unions, then individuals will be left to determine whether or not their union is a marriage. This will allow any two people the ability to enjoy the societal benefits of joining together in the eyes of the state without having to infringe upon people's views on marriage and the religious connotation it may or may not carry.
