Replace the Electoral College with the Popular Vote

The reasons for having an Electoral College are obsolete given modern communication technologies. By retaining this antiquated system in our presidential election process, it is possible for a candidate to be elected president even when that candidate is not the choice of the majority of Americans, (i.e. does not win the popular vote). It also creates inequality in terms of how much a person's vote is worth. The electoral college is extinct and should be replaced with the Popular Vote for presidential elections.

Why is this important?

I am an Idaho citizen. Idaho is the most Republican state in the country and we have only four electoral votes. As a result, a vote for the Democratic candidate never counts in this state. Candidates rarely spend time campaigning here because the winner is a foregone conclusion. So, in Idaho (and other states) a democratic vote in a presidential election never counts, and it is essentially worth less than someone's vote in Ohio or Florida. The same can be said for a Republican in an extremely Democratic state. The electoral college is no longer needed. It is archaic, and defies the equality constitutionally granted to all Americans.
