Representatives Alan Grayson and Mark Takano released a letter to President Obama promising to "vote against any and every cut to Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security benefits." Within 2 days, the letter had more than a dozen cosigners, but to date, our Rep. Jared Huffman has not signed on. We want to know definitively that Rep. Huffman will stand up against Republican efforts to cut the social safety net.
Why is this important?
Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security programs should not be cut. It is essential for the economy as whole, now deep in a demand crisis caused by unemployment that these payments continue full bore. They are economic stimuli, not to mention that ordinary citizens have been paying for these programs for many decades.
