Why is this important?
Not only do I now live in a state that has very nearly disenfranchised certain peoples, I also used to live in North Carolina, a state where voters have been subjected to harsh, new voter ID laws. This and other laws like it destroy the ability of minorities and the poor to have their voices heard; however, the new Voting Rights Act of 2014 could help those people and in time become a stronger law in itself. Urge Representative Tim Murphy to cosponsor this bill and strive to make it better for the future.
