Moderate Republicans willing to end the shutdown by passing a clean funding bill are being ignored by the Republican House leadership. The House Speaker refuses to bring such a bill to the House floor for a vote. Moderates have been abandoned because the House has been hijacked by right-wing members intent on circumventing the legislative process. These legislators find it unacceptable that a bill passed by majority vote and signed into law is the law. There are enough moderates to pass a clean funding bill and they can pressure the House leadership to bring the bill to vote by threatening to leave the party and become Independents.
Why is this important?
As a worker in Yosemite National Park, I am now out of work because of the closure of the park. And my county will be devastated if the shutdown doesn't end soon since tourism is its main source of income.
