To: The United States House of Representatives and The United States Senate
Require Congress to convene at 9am Monday morning and recess at 5pm, Friday
At present, both houses of Congress begin their daily sessions on Tuesday and end them Thursday afternoon. That's a three day work week, for which they are paid in excess of $174,000 annually.
In addition, they take one week breaks on federal holidays. Then abetted by air flights, either paid for by contributors to their PACs, lobbyists seeking influence or reimbursed for commercial flights with tax payer dollars, they fly back and forth to their homes weekly for four days of fund raising.
This absurdly short work week has contributed greatly to the lack of familiarity and cordiality amongst members of Congress.
I would propose that daily sessions of both houses of Congress should begin on Monday morning at 9:00am with a roll call vote and end in the same manner at 5:00pm on Friday.
