Require Verizon to inform customers of installation options that will save them $10 per month.
I had a Verizon bundle installed about 1 year ago when they were running a “special”. When the technicians informed me that the box was capable of recording I informed them that I had no desire to record TV shows. They installed a DVR and never informed me that I could have a set top box which would cost less and provide TV reception. I never recorded anything and was trying to get this growing bill down to a rate that was closer to what had been promised when I first signed up. It was at this time that I discovered I had been hoodwinked and that it was not necessary to have the DVR in order to have reception. The DVR which records shows costs $20.00 per month in comparison to the set top boxes which cost $10.00 (not including tax and what ever other means they use to extract money from their customers like surcharges). I returned the DVR and picked up the box that provides reception only. I was given instructions on how to install it, but it did not work so I called the number I was given “in case I had any problems with the installation”. I spoke to 3 different technicians who took remote control of the box in order to restore reception. The second technician I spoke to was located in California (I am in NY) and he had me on the phone for hours. I had come home from work exhausted and rather than attend to my own business I was now an unpaid employee of Very-Greedy. He apologized for the amount of time it was taking but I told him it was OK because I knew from the last time that it was going to be another head-banger. I informed him that I was prepared with a beer, some chips and reading materials. Finally he told me he could handle it without my assistance, and it would be working in the morning so I could go to bed. The next day when I turned it on it was not working so I knew I would have to go through this exasperating procedure once again. Since I have other things to do in my life like eating, sleeping, and going to work at a job that I am actually paid for I opted not to go through this experience immediately. Finally the 3rd technician was able to correct the problem, but at this point in time I had been without reception for one whole week. I called Very-Greedy and told them that I would like to have my bill adjusted because I saw no reason to pay for services they had not provided. I was told that it was my option to take a break from this exhausting experience and if I had not done this my service would have been restored earlier. What? I spent about 8 or 9 hours total because of their ineptitude and disregard for their customers. Had they been honest in the first place I would not have had to deal with this head-banging and exasperating experience. Then I went to visit my late mother’s husband who is 86 years old and asked him if he knew that his DVR could record shows. He had no idea that it had these capabilities and informed me that he was not interested in recording anything. So here is a senior citizen who is surviving on social security and a meager pension, I am sure he has other things to do with his money than spend it on a devise he never has or will use. While the extra $10.00 per month many seem like small change when you multiply it by the amount of people who have this devise and don’t use it the number becomes astronomical. This is just one of their dirty tricks I am sure that there are others, and that is why I am giving them the heave-hoe. They never credited me for the week I did not have TV reception, nor have they compensated me for the time working for them to resolve the situation. Meanwhile Verizon recently tripled the compensation of its CEO, Lowell McAdam from $7.2 million to $23.1 million a year and compensates top executives with $283 million in salary and bonuses. Please sign this petition so that very-greedy can no longer prey on senior citizens and other consumers who made be facing hard times brought on by the greed of wall street, mega corps and other ruthless entrepreneurs.
Why is this important?
Verizon technicians install DVRs in the homes of people who don't even know what they are or how to use them. They do not provide information on a less expensive alternative which is half the cost of the DVR.
