Reschedule Marijuana

Marijuana is the third most commonly used drug in America (behind only tobacco and alcohol.) It is currently classified as a Schedule I substance which means that it has no accepted medical value and a high risk of abuse. A schedule I substance means it is of the utmost importance to federal drug agencies.
(As a reference point- cocaine and amphetamines are both schedule II substances.)
Many doctors in 16 states (and Washington, DC) have formed an opinion through strong scientific research that marijuana actually DOES have medicinal value for a variety of ailments (including pain relief, insomnia, nausea caused by cancer treatments, migraines, and degenerative nerve disease) and the negative consequences of marijuana use are much less than previously thought. Many people speculate that the current classification of marijuana was not based on scientific research at all.
The federal government refuses to fund or accept any independent studies done on a Schedule I substance, which means that any studies done on marijuana in the last 40 years can not be reviewed by the federal government.
We demand that marijuana be rescheduled as a schedule II substance so our states and federal government can begin to accept scientific reviews and, if necessary, reform current marijuana laws that have cost taxpayers billions of dollars and imprisoned hundreds of thousands of otherwise innocent citizens.

Why is this important?

Reclassify marijuana as a schedule II substance so we can allow the federal government to review scientific studies regarding the most commonly used illegal drug in America.
