New York State will soon start taking bids on a proposal for zip-lining, rappelling, and possibly other man-made recreations in the Niagara Gorge. We must urge our city officials and county legislators to take a stand and pass a resolution banning any further commercialization of the Niagara Gorge while preserving the natural beauty and wildlife. The Niagara Gorge is a place of peaceful relaxation for locals and tourists alike, and no tourist type activity will improve upon the natural scenery.
Why is this important?
TERMS: From the Discovery Center to the falls will be a designated zone allowing commercialization. This area of the gorge is already commercialized. From the Discovery Center to the NYS Power Authority will be preserved in it's natural state (as natural as possible at this point); no commercialization in this area (Whirlpool & Devil's Hole included), as well as no man-made improvements (railings; limiting access to certain areas, etc.)
