For over a 100 years it was legal and safe for people to cross the railroad right-of-way to access public lands and waters. Anglers, hunters, birders, trappers, government officials, agency staff, sheriffs, judges and district attorneys have expressed their concerns about the loss of this long held right to access public lands and waters. We ask that the state of Wisconsin Legislators to pass and the Governor to sign legislation that will restore the right of the public to legally step across railroad right of way to gain access to public land and water.
Why is this important?
Wisconsin residents have been able to cross the right-away for over a 100 years but now have been denied this access due to a law change in 2006 by the railroad. Over 255 crossings will now be illegal due to this legislation.
