To: Ryan Zinke, Secretary of the Interior
Restore the Ban On Lead in Wildlife Refuges
I am extremely disappointed that you repealed the phaseout of lead ammunition and fishing tackle on wildlife refuges. Please reverse course and protect our wildlife, water, soil, and health from toxic lead on public lands.
Why is this important?
On his first day as secretary of the Interior, Ryan Zinke reversed a policy that would have phased out toxic, lead-based ammunition and fishing tackle from national wildlife refuges by 2022.
Lead, a powerful neurotoxin, is a huge threat for waterfowl and birds of prey, like ducks, bald eagles, and California condors.
That Zinke undid this protection on his FIRST DAY is extremely disconcerting -- please demand that Ryan Zinke reestablish the transition away from lead in wildlife refuges.
