Restore the Voter Rights Act
A year ago, the Supreme Court removed Section 4 from the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Now, states all over the country are installing outrageous Voter ID laws to restrict people from their Constitutional right to vote, including my home state Ohio. It's time to for us to take back what's ours. Send a message to Congress that we're not going to let them trample on our rights. We've come to far as a country to be set back by anything or anyone.
Why is this important?
I think that everyone has the right to vote, and that shouldn't be taken away from us. It's sad that people fought and are still fighting today for everyone's right to vote. So, I want to make it equal for everyone, no matter what party they're associated with. Because if these laws keep on coming into effect, in the famous words of Langston Hughes, voting rights will "dry up like a raisin in the sun." Our concept of democracy and rights as voters would be gone forever. We will be going backward instead of forward as a country.
