Reverse Ka Mauri Harrison’s Suspension

The suspension of Ka Mauri Harrison should be reversed and removed from his school records.

Why is this important?

Ka Mauri Harrison has missed 6 days of his education for something that should have been a phone call to his parents to resolve an issue. Ka Mauri was suspended for having a “visible” BB gun in his room. The BB gun was not visible until his little brother knocked it over and Ka Mauri simply picked it up, stood it back up next to his desk, and went back to his test. He did not threaten anyone or point the BB gun at anyone. He did not pose an immediate threat to others or himself.
School law does not apply to the virtual environment. The school should have a discipline handbook written for addressing behavior in the virtual environment. If they do not have this, then Ka Mauri’s right to a free appropriate public education has been violated.
A suspension, especially one involving a “weapon” could seriously affect Ka Mauri’s future educational options.
