Reverse law makingMichigan's governor, legislature exempt from FOIA

Michigan's Freedom of Information law passed in 1976 exempts both our governor and legislature from the law. This makes it extremely likely and easy that something nefarious--including the current debacle over Flint's water--can be quickly covered up and never see the light of day. We need to Change that law immediately. Help by signing my petition.

Why is this important?

The Flint water crisis has once again drawn this law's fatal flaw into the spotlight. What good is a Freedom of Information act if the very arms of government that often need investigating the most are protected from any form of legitimate recourse to find out "who knew it, and when did they know it?" A CEO I knew once said, 'if a policy is stupid, send me a memo with the subject line of "this is stupid." Well, let's send both the governor and our legislature a "this is stupid" memo that will resound through the halls of Lansing so loudly, they'll have no choice but to change it.
