Help seasonal workers in Pennsylvania
Revise the Act 60 law that makes seasonal workers ineligible for unemployment benefits.
Why is this important?
Many seasonal workers across the state of Pennsylvania are ineligible to receive unemployment because of the Act 60 law that went into effect on Jan. 6, 2013.
There is no work available due to winter weather conditions in careers such as highway construction, bridge work, landscaping, roofing to name a few. These people have full time jobs and a definite return to work date. They work 60 to 80 hours a week in the summer months and contribute to the unemployment fund. These seasonal workers are not abusing the system, but are unable to get help in the winter months.
Please sign and let our government know that these skilled workers will leave these professions if they cannot get help when there is no work available. Should a person take another job for a few months then quit when they are called back to their full-time job? That job should go to someone who needs full-time employment.
