We petition the house, senate, and governor of the State of Iowa to revoke the status of "person" granted to corporations.
Why is this important?
Many, many ills, including the infamous "Citizens United" ruling, have their source in the counter-intuitive and in fact odd idea that the rights accorded to citizens under the U.S. Constitution must also be extended to corporations. First introduced in an obscure lower court case, the supreme court eventually upheld this strange idea. We request that the State of Iowa revoke this status regarding corporations.
