Revoke Exxon Mobil's License to Pollute

Federal law requires that Exxon Mobil Coal USA remove their hazardous permanently impounded coal production waste slurry and reclaim and restore the land to its prior state of prime farmland. Stop the illegal poisoning of the Pearl Sand Aquifer by enforcing the federal law to protect the groundwater and the citizens of Clinton County, IL.

Why is this important?

The Illinois Supreme Court determined earlier this year that Citizens Opposing Pollution cannot enforce the Illinois Surface Mining Reclamation and Conservation Act such that Exxon has been allowed to poison the Pearl Sand Aquifer in Clinton County, Illinois with 422 acres of permanently impounded coal production waste slurry that is constantly leeching hazardous constituents into the groundwater which can no longer be used as drinking water by the local residents and farmers. Secretary of Interior, Kenneth Salazar, has the power to enforce the identical federal law and force Exxon Mobil Coal USA to remove and properly dispose of their hazardous coal production waste. We are calling on Secretary Salazar to enforce the federal law so that Exxon cannot continue to poison the Pearl Sand Aquifer.
