RKA: Give students a break from Zoom
Instead of having Zoom meetings everyday with all of our teachers back to back for 7-8 periods, we had a few classes and worked on assignments for the rest of the school day. This allowed us to take "brain breaks", get up and stretch or take our eyes off the screen while not missing anything important. We don’t even have time to eat lunch anymore! If we do we miss notes. The system from last years school remote learning is more effective for both teachers and students. Students did not feel as tired at the end of the day, and was not suffering from screen fatigue. Screen fatigue can induce burred or double vision, headache, sore neck, shoulders or back, depression, and difficulty concentrating. We as students need to have fewer live zoom meetings in order to work productively.
Why is this important?
I am a 10th grader in RKA. I have seen that not only do my peers and I need a break from screens, but also do our teachers. Students of all ages are bound to their screens for hours at end due to the unprecedented Covid-19. Staring at screens for hours is unhealthy and can lead to screen fatigue, which many of us suffer from. In the spring last school year, we had Zoom meetings with our teachers only 2-3 times a week, and the productivity in students was the same as it is now if not better.
