Rob Manfred: Use a United States manufacturer to produce MLB fan apparel
Baseball is America's favorite pastime, but if you're a fan, it's not possible to buy an American-made hat or shirt to show your team pride. As incoming MLB Commissioner (after Bud Selig's retirement in January 2015), Rob Manfred should initiate the switch from Chinese and other countries' manufacturers to ones based in the U.S. to produce official MLB fan attire. A show of patriotism like this would be a great way to usher in a new era of baseball.
Why is this important?
My husband and I are both huge baseball fans, and we try to only buy American-made products. When my husband wanted to buy a new Milwaukee Brewers hat this spring, he was disappointed and frustrated that one made in the USA was not an option. After researching the subject, it's clear that there are U.S.-based hat and t-shirt manufacturers would be viable candidates to take over production that would not cause a steep increase in apparel prices. Given the amount of products the MLB orders, the switch could possibly even create American jobs.
