Require all major office holders to win 50% of votes cast to win an election. This might require run off elections between the top candidates if neither got 50% of votes cast.
Why is this important?
I believe that with today's fractured parties it is time to require a candidate to get a majority of votes cast to win an election. There are too many cases where a spoiler candidate allows a candidate to win an election where they would have been second even a distant second if the spoiler candidate was not in the race.
