Hydraulic Fracturing or “fracking” is the process of obtaining natural gas, by drilling into shale rock formations. Many federal regulations that are in place now prevent environmental agencies like the EPA from making rules on fracking. We need to pass the FRAC Act (Fracturing Responsibility and Awareness to Chemicals Act) in order to force fracking companies to disclose what chemicals they use.
Fracking without regulations results in tainted drinking water, disruption of animal habitats, and the pollution of our atmosphere. If the Senate passes the FRAC Act, fracking without environmental hazards could be a reality. Fracking with the proper regulations yields economic growth, job creation, and an improved economy without the environmental hazards. Fracking is a means to revitalize the economy, helping us escape the recent recession that has caused 8.1% of our population to be unemployed.
