Santa Fe County Zoning Proposal on Hwy 14

Stop Santa Fe County from rezoning land along Highway 14 east and north of the Rancho San Marcos subdivision from Rural Residential to Mixed Use which includes high density residential (up to 3 stories) and commercial structures.

Why is this important?

A portion of the land adjacent to and north of the Rancho San Marcos subdivision on the east side of Highway 14 has a proposed zoning area as "mixed use" in the county's Sustainable Land Development Code which will go before the voters for adoption this year. This area was previously zoned Rural Residential. Mixed use includes residential and commercial structures and can include high-density residential structures that are about 3 levels high. Having mixed use abut our neighborhood will significantly change the character of our neighborhood in a number of ways including traffic on 14, light pollution, and noise pollution, to mention a few. This zoning change has the potential to significantly impact property values and quality of life in our neighborhood, especially for those on the north side. It is felt that maintaining the area zoning as Rural Residential would preserve the present nature of the area while still allowing for development by its owners.
