Save Art and Culture in Delray Beach
We and many other small businesses of Delray, are concerned about the challenges small business owners and creative event organizers face in Delray Beach. While the city has the potential to be a thriving hub for entrepreneurs and creative activities, the current regulatory environment is more of a barrier than a support system.
We ask The city of Delray Beach to become a proactive partner in fostering creativity, growth, and innovation. To reconsider and restructure its approach to code enforcement, instead of acting as an obstacle, we ask Delray Beach to become a proactive partner that fosters creativity, growth, and innovation. This could include:
- Simplifying regulations and reducing unnecessary fines
- Offering more clear guidelines and resources for small business owners
- Supporting creative events that enhance the cultural landscape of the city
- Creating a more business-friendly environment that encourages innovation and community collaboration
Subculture Coffee kindly asks that The City help expedite any necessary procedures or approvals to continue our gatherings, like The Art Bazaar, Comedy, Open Mic, Trivia, etc. Please consider the positive impact this vibrant gathering has on our local culture, economy, and spirit.
Do the residents of Delray want more Atlantic Ave commercialized corporate national chains inevitably forcing out any local small businesses that are the heart and soul of our community?
Subculture Coffee opened 4 blocks north of Atlantic in an area void of pedestrian traffic. Since we opened, we have attempted to create a vibrant community space for all Delray residents. In the spirit of the Coffee House of the 30s,40s, 50s,s, and '60s, we have provided a free open performance space for the community to share ideas, music, poetry and all forms of art,
The local community has overwhelmingly embraced us. Many state Subculture Coffee is a savior to artistic community and free thinkers. Subculture Coffee is the balance to the commercialization of Atlantic Ave,
Please help Subculture Coffee and other local small businesses that are integral to any vibrant, creative, culturally diverse city and neighborhood.

Why is this important?
Many small businesses (like subculture coffee) focused on creative events/ offerings are finding it increasingly difficult to operate due to excessive fines and overly strict enforcement of minor regulations. These burdensome obstacles stifle growth and creativity, making it hard for us to contribute to the vibrant community Delray Beach is known for.
With the right support system in place, Delray Beach can become a true haven for small businesses and creative endeavors.
Otherwise, we will inevitably lose more of Delray Beach to the developers and out-of-state businesses that offer little to the local charm of a city like Delray Beach.
