Why is this important?
Currently, federal General Schedule employees that are not permanent are being released when their yearly renewal comes due. This affects those who have a term contract for a certain number of years that renews each year. Regardless of where an employee is within their term, the position is being cut when the yearly renewal comes up.
There are many employees throughout the country that this is currently affecting, and can effectively shut down crucial departments that are mostly made up of employees under these terms. One such department is the Technology Integration division of the Army's prestigious Defense Language Institute in Monterey, Ca. This division creates interactive educational materials for soldiers learning foreign languages, which the US Government views as a critical expense. However, the broad, blind cuts will effectively shut down this division.
